If you're a guest traveling from out of state — or even from Philadelphia or Pittsburgh — getting to and from a Lancaster County wedding takes a little planning. Lancaster's Wedding Venues: Why Guests Need Wheels
Unlike a city wedding where guests can walk or rideshare between the hotel and venue, Lancaster County's most popular wedding venues are rural. Which Airport Should You Fly Into?
Three airports serve Lancaster County:
Harrisburg International (MDT) — Best Option for Most Guests
About 40 minutes west of central Lancaster via Route 283, Harrisburg International handles regional flights from major hubs. The road into Lancaster County is straightforward and the drive is scenic through the lower Susquehanna Valley.
If you're flying from Chicago, Atlanta, New York, DC, Charlotte, or other major cities, check MDT first. The flight options aren't as numerous as Philadelphia, but the convenience advantage is significant — especially when you factor in driving time, airport navigation, and baggage.
Philadelphia International (PHL) — Best for Flight Selection
PHL has by far the most direct international and domestic routes, which makes it the right choice if your city doesn't have good service to Harrisburg or if you're flying internationally.
The drive from PHL to Lancaster is roughly 80–90 minutes on the PA Turnpike (I-76) or via Route 30. It's a reliable drive in normal conditions, but I-76 westbound on a Friday afternoon can be slow. If you're driving from PHL, give yourself extra time.
Reading Regional (RDG) — Worth Checking
About 40 minutes southeast of Lancaster via Route 222. Limited commercial service, but if your carrier flies there, the approach to Lancaster County is smooth and the airport is small enough to move through quickly.
Why a Rental Car Often Beats Rideshare for Multi-Day Wedding Trips
Rideshare apps are convenient for a single trip. For a multi-day wedding weekend in Lancaster County, the math usually tips toward a rental car.
Cost. A Friday-to-Sunday rental at a flat daily rate typically costs less than four or five on-demand rideshare trips in a rural county where surge pricing can apply during late-night demand.
Availability. Rideshare coverage in Lancaster County is thinner than in cities, particularly outside of the city of Lancaster proper. On a Saturday night in a rural area, during or after a wedding, wait times can be long or cars may be unavailable. This is not the moment to discover that.

Getting Around Between Events
Most wedding weekends have multiple events spread across Lancaster County: a welcome dinner at a restaurant in downtown Lancaster Friday, the ceremony at a farm venue Saturday afternoon, a brunch Sunday at a different location.
